Well the dawn is breaking darling And the dew is forming on the lawn Last night I can’t remember If I could I’d wanna forget How we came about the things we said So I’m leaving for the mountains Just to find a little piece of mind On a dark and starry evening I found a little time To sing my songs to the Calgary Skyline. I've got an angel on my mind The devil on my heels The greyhound ain’t fast enough for me When the bus breaks down She’ll burn me to the ground I just hope my angel can be free Down below in the flatland On a dark horse the devil rides alone I steadied my aim Raised my rifle to my eye But rather let her live to wonder why

I wish that I was taller little taller than the trees So I could see my future and the place I scrape my knees And pick my battles wiser 'cos I’ve never won a war I’m getting tired of waking up to bullets ringing out my door You hid behind your crooked smile and the darkness of your eyes Telling all your secrets to the tallest trees 'Cos when that old jackpine falls it don’t make a sound It’s carrying all your thoughts and burying them in the ground Between the strikes and thunder there's a silence in my ears And it's asking me where my heart is bound Fate is asking why I don’t talk to you no more I was trembling to leave steady walking out the door The morning came to take a train I took a greyhound instead I much prefer the tires to the rail I chased a humble feeling to the foothills in July I never second guessed the reasons and I won't regret how I tried Every passing city begs to know whats on my mind Still I ponder where my heart is bound Fate is asking why I don’t talk to you no more I was trembling to leave steady walkin out the door When it’s raining on her shore I’m tryin to find a little shelter from the storm Between the strikes and thunder there's a silence in my ears And it's begging me where my heart is bound Fate is asking why I don’t talk to you no more I was trembling to leave steady walkin out the door

My tires they’re slipping down memory lane And the waters I’m casting my stones They’re poisoned with fear an uncertain rage But I’m biding my time till you come back again All my dreams are coming more clear With every day that you’re gone And the rivers you’re sailing are troubled no more At last there’s salvation on the shore You turned to the bottle and soon you grew thin Your heart was never clouded by the storm When you stepped out the front door and into the wind It was the weight of your heart kept both feet on the ground Now the days don’t come easy the nights never end I’ve seen what is and what should never be If you don’t come back to see me I’ll set out one day And let the winds of glory guide me to your home so far away
4.
I couldn’t wait forever so I thought I’d tell you That I’m looking for a reason just to be set free So many miles between us I know in that cafe You’re trembling in your boots wondering how you’re gonna stay The western winds sure blow strong across the great divide They keep you bound from feeling all the things you kept inside I know that’d things would be different if I was there with you But I’m stuck inside the old hometown doing what I do I wished I was a poet but I tend to ramble on All the words I put in pen would end up as a song So these are my stories, the ones that I will tell They make me feel like heaven and they make me feel like hell I drove down to the station on a January day Knowing that I’d see your face before the month of May But bigger cities have a way of turning things around They seem to have no mercy on the heart of a little town So I’m left to think about the things I can’t control I’m shaking as I try and sort out how I let you go And Although in different places I know we’re still the same Perhaps we’ll meet up when I finally hit the road again

Two Rivers 03:38
I’ve seen your face a thousand times I know what makes you cry So how did I go down that road And leave behind my pride She once was a diner girl Down at Falcon's shore She held me up and let me down She left me wanting more I’ll wait on by these rivers until she calls my name For I can hope if she were me it’d all be just the same So I proposed a game of cards As cliché as it may be My hand was full of twos and queens No hearts upon their sleeve
6.
Three days on the water travelling through this land This paddle is my destiny my hammer in my hand I know not where I’m going I know the route I’ve been I hope the good Lord rescues me if ever I should sin Like the woodland cree before us to them my head I bow Their lives remain in pictographs on the ridges of Teggau If ever you should go there and listen the leaves You’ll hear them tell the stories of the years before the thieves Someplace o’er yonder in a mansion on the hill You signed away protection for a petty dollar bill You sure aint bound for glory you're a million dollar slave The higher powers gone before will haunt you till your grave I’m just a weary traveller on Experimental lakes I’ve seen the beauty in this land and cowards and the snakes Someplace in the darkness beneath the moonlit skies Under placid waters the sacred beauty dies
